There is a Comparison Monster (alive and well in all business owners) that keeps them from growing further.
Have you ever heard the term, “Compare and despair”?
It’s a good reminder that it can be destructive to compare ourselves to others because it can often lead to negative feelings of defeat (especially if we look at someone’s highlight reel on social media, or their great results, on a day when we’re feeling down).
There’s another, better way to look at comparison for us entrepreneurs…one that can lead to growth, new ideas and much bigger revenues, especially when we’re trying to go to the next level in our business. Here it is:
When we have big goals, like reaching 10X the clients, a global presence, or a million in revenue, it helps to find those who have achieved these big goals…even outside our own industry.
This is when we shift our thinking so we can look at these successful businesses, not to compare destructively, but rather, to be inspired…to know that what we dream of is indeed possible and to learn what needs to be done to get those kinds of results too.
When we see that it’s possible, we can dig deeper to find out how they did it.
And most importantly, we realize that if they did it, we can too.
Maybe you have believed in the past that you can’t reach the same exponential (quantum) business growth you see others experience. When I suggest this idea to those who are curious about Boldheart or to the business owners in our signature program, I will often hear resistance:
- “That won’t work for my business.”
- “They’re in a different industry, so they were able to do things I can’t possibly do.”
- “They have all kinds of resources, infrastructure and support that I don’t. There’s just no way that will work for me.”
- “I don’t have the kind of personality it takes to scale so big.”
While it’s absolutely understandable to feel this way when looking in from the outside (remember, ‘compare and despair’?), it’s just not true. Everything you want is available to you.
Every single very successful entrepreneur I’ve ever observed, met or worked with has gotten help to get where they are…in fact, it often takes a village for a business to succeed.
(And smart people recognize the incredible value of getting expert help.)
